University Counseling

University counseling is the process by which we advise students on the most appropriate course of study for them in higher education.

During students’ last two years of school, our experienced college counselors will work with students, individually and in groups, to move from the general to the specific in the college admissions process. Students are guided in selecting an appropriate range of college choices, completing the admissions process at those schools, and, ultimately, selecting which institution to attend.

Students will have access to a college admissions library with material from a wide range of institutions, computer software programs for test preparation, and financial aid information. The college counselors are also available for conferences with students’ families, as required.

In addition, college counselors work alongside our students to guide, encourage and assist in the higher education application process.

Grade 11

During the first term of Grade 11, students meet with the college counselors to discuss:
  • College options
  • Admissions criteria
  • SAT/ACT scores
  • Sources of information
  • Initial career thoughts
During the second term of Grade 11, students will be assigned a counselor and will discuss:
  • Preliminary college lists
  • Learning more about targeted schools
  • Summer visit plans

Grade 12

The initial emphasis is on narrowing a student’s list of college choices in preparation for the application process itself. Each student’s college counselor oversees the application process. Assistance is also provided in scheduling college visits during vacation time, if appropriate, as well as admission interviews with visiting representatives in our area.

With a wide range of international experience amongst our school leadership, we can also provide guidance and counseling for university application in Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe and other parts of the world.
